Apple and Google Remove Huione Group Crypto Apps Following Allegations of Illicit Activities

Apple and Google have removed apps developed by Huione Group from their marketplaces after allegations surfaced regarding the group's involvement in a $24 billion illicit marketplace operation. The apps were linked to Huione Guarantee, a platform exposed by Elliptic in July 2024 as a hub for online fraudsters, including those involved in pig butchering scams. Elliptic's updated analysis revealed that cryptocurrency wallets associated with Huione Guarantee and its vendors received at least $24 billion, with monthly inflows increasing by 51% and user numbers surpassing 900,000 since the initial report.
